Benefits and Risks of Brow Lamination and Straightening

Brow Lamination and Straightening

Sculpting the “perfect eyebrow” is time-consuming and can be expensive. Most people don’t have the time or patience to tame their brows. Eyebrow lamination done by a professional may be the answer you have been looking for. Understanding the benefits and risks of brow lamination and straightening will help you decide if it is right for you!

Brow Lamination, What Is It?

A brow lift, brow sculpting, and brow lamination are the same procedure. Some also refer to this as eyebrow ironing. All four involve lifting the brow hair using chemicals to lift and straighten the eyebrows. They are noninvasive and painless. The brows can be trained once the solution breaks down the hair’s protein bonds.

Why Laminate Your Brows?

For most people, brow lamination is purely cosmetic. Their eyebrows may be overwaxed or overplucked, and their brow hair may be lost as they age, thin, or hard to maintain. Laminated eyebrows don’t involve needles like microblading. It is less messy than gels and creams, making your brows look full and fluffier.

The Lamination and Strengthening Process

Laminating and strengthening methods vary by salon, but the steps are the same. Once you arrive at the salon, a cosmetologist will perform a test patch to ensure you have no allergy or sensitive reaction to the solution or cream used. Then, a discussion about the results you want and an examination of your eyebrows should be performed to ensure the proper chemicals are used for your outcome.

Once the test patch shows it is safe to use, they will thoroughly clean your eyebrow and the surrounding area of oils and dry the brow properly to ensure the hair’s application results are successful. Your brows will be mapped to enhance your face, and thread the stray hairs.

A keratin-based cream nourishes the brow strands, which are brushed in the same direction. The area with the cream is then covered with plastic wrap for a designated time based on the brow’s texture.

The cosmetologist removes the brow cream before applying a styling solution that sets the brows in their new style. The brow area is again covered in plastic wrap, and the timer is set.

When the styling time is completed, the brow product is thoroughly removed a second time.

Now that styling is complete, the brows are conditioned and moisturized using a nourishing product. The result is a brow that is styled, stronger and looks attractive.

Brow laminating takes approximately forty-five minutes to an hour. Laminating is semi-permanent, and the cosmetologist will tell you when you need to return. Afterward, the eyebrows can be threaded, tinted, tweezed, or waxed. Be sure to follow the aftercare instructions.

Eyebrow Aftercare

After your eyebrow lamination, you must avoid getting them wet for twenty-four hours. This includes makeup, skin care products, and water, including sweat and steam.

Benefits of Eyebrow Laminating

The laminating results will vary based on the quality of your eyebrows.

  • Tames thick, full, fluffy, and harder to style brows
  • Laminating is non-invasive
  • Brow laminating is pain-free
  • The results look natural
  • The results offer even eyebrows
  • Brows will have definition and shape
  • Thinning brows can be naturally thickened
  • Over-waxed and plucked brows can be filled in naturally
  • Easy to care for brows

Is the Cost Worth It?

Absolutely! Most salons charge fifty to one hundred thirty dollars to laminate the brows, depending on where you live and what is charged in your area. A licensed cosmetologist performs the procedure, ensuring great results.

The results last approximately six to eight weeks or until the brow starts growing out. You can make your results last longer by conditioning and moisturizing your eyebrows. This will stop hair breakage caused by dried-out brows.

Risks of Eyebrow Laminating

Like any chemical hair treatment, there are risks. Your eye area is very sensitive due to the delicate tissues in this area. They are easily irritated by harsh chemicals. Potential risks include:

  • Peeling
  • Dry skin in the eye and brow areas
  • Swelling or inflammation
  • Itching
  • Bumps
  • Redness
  • Breakage of damaged brows

If the chemicals should get in your eyes, there could be permanent damage to your eyes. If you have rosacea, chemical sensitivity, sensitive skin, contact dermatitis, or eczema, seek a physician’s opinion before laminating your brows!
